2017 Kia Rio

Kia will be launching the all new 2017 Kia Rio at the upcoming
Paris Auto Show. The 4th-gen model comes with a whole new,
mature look that is sure to tempt many enthusiasts. The Kia Rio
comes with a square-jawed look thanks to combined efforts by
designers in the US, Germany and those at the company’s
headquarters in South Korea.

Unfortunately, Kia will only exhibit the hatchback in Paris
because the sedan version won’t be sold in France. The Kia Rio
has become a very important car to the South Korean automaker.
In 2015, over 473,000 units of the model were sold. The new
model is set to boost sales to over 500,000 units in the 2017
model year. Read along for more information:

2017 Kia Rio Exterior

Design-wise, the Kia Rio has matured up. The new design borrows
from the new design we have seen on Kia’s larger vehicles. The
new Kia Rio looks sportier and comes with numerous straight and
smooth lines, a huge step from the previous cheap look.

The new evolution of the automaker’s tiger-nose grille kicks
off the new design. The grille is wider and shorter in height.
The engine hood and front overhang are larger. The grille is
flanked by bi-function U-shaped LED headlights that make the
front look more stylish. The bumper has also been revised and
it integrates new fog lights. The rear also looks sportier. It
is characterized by a near-vertical tailgate window, thinner,
arrow shaped LED taillights, a modified roof spoiler as well as
a new diffuser-like element.

Dimension-wise, the Kia Rio is 0.6 inches longer and 0.2 inches
wider than the outgoing model. The model is lower in height by
0.2 inches. Its wheelbase is 0.4 inches longer. While these
figures don’t look that significant, they have in fact helped
the model achieve a more balanced stance.

2017 Kia Rio Interior

The cabin has also been revamped. To begin with, gone are the
numerous plastics that used to cover the dashboard; they have
been replaced by better materials. The dash is also more
driver-centered. It is characterized by a ‘floating’
high-resolution touch-screen mounted at the center. Unlike the
outgoing model, the dash is much cleaner and uncluttered.

The interior is offered in black or grey cloth upholstery on
the seats. Premium models feature black or faux leather
upholstery. The new upholstery has helped create a more premium
look for the model. Buyers can also choose a Red Pack which
adds black and red faux leather upholstery on the seats. A
gloss-black and metallic trim accompanies all upholstery
options. The Kia Rio also features trapezoid-shaped A/C vents
on the corners. Other redesigned features include the steering
wheel, center tunnel, and the armrest. The model also features
a new instrument cluster and new door panels.

The legroom for the rear passengers is slightly better courtesy
of the slight increase in the car’s wheelbase. The automaker
also revealed that the Kia Rio will offer class-reading
practicability as well as safety technologies and connectivity
features. The model will be easier to handle and will offer a
more engaging driving experience.

Engine Specs and performance

Kia has not revealed details about the engines that will power
the 2017 Kia Rio. However, the model is likely to be offered in
a number of engines in Europe and a single drive-train in the
US. The current model sold in the US produces 138 hp and is EPA
rated at 27 mpg and 38 mpg in city and on highway drives
respectively.

We believe the new model will feature a more powerful and fuel
efficient engine. A performance-oriented Kia Rio is also
likely. More information will be available when the model makes
its debut at the Paris Auto show.
