2018 Opel Crossland X

The mini SUV segment gets interesting every coming day as
automakers try to outdo each other. Not to be left behind, Opel
has released a new mini SUV dubbed the “Crossland X” which in
all perspectives is a smaller version of the Mokka X. The idea
behind the new model was the failure of the Mokka X
to compete with smaller mini SUVs like the Peugeot
2008 and Renault Captur although it did a good job
competing with the likes of Mazda CX-3
and Nissan
Juke. Therefore, the 2018 Opel Crossland X is arguably a
smaller, less equipped and cheaper version of the Mokka X. When
releasing the model, Tina Mueller, Opel’s CMO alluded that the
mini SUV will particularly interest women due to its high
seating positions and its OnStar concierge services that allow
an individual to even book a hotel room while still driving.

2018 Opel Crossland X Exterior

The exterior of the 2018 Opel Crossland X is borrowed from that
of the Mokka X SUV. The Crossland X comes with the same 7-sided
grille that is flanked by piercing headlights. The model also
features angular LED DRLs just like the Mokka X. In fact,
except for its small size, you can easily mistake the Opel
Crossland X for a Mokka X. The only difference between the two
models at the fort is that the Crossland X has a new bumper.

The rear is, however, different. While the Mokka rear is bulky
and rugged, that of the Crossland X is smoother and has a funky
design. The model has a floating roof borrowed from the Opel
Adam. This look is enhanced by chrome detailing above the side
windows as well as contrasting roof color. The Crossland also
features a sculpted panel that breaks up its metalwork making
it look squatter than it actually is.

2018 Opel Crossland X Interior

The interior of the 2018 Opel Crossland X looks familiar as it
is based on the interior styling of the current Opel models.
Like other Opel models, the Crossland X comes with a simple
center console with a huge infotainment screen. Below this
screen are physical controls for heating and ventilation
systems. The model also offers Wi-Fi hotspot and Opel’s OnStar
virtual assistant, which is compatible with Android Auto and
Apple CarPlay as standard features on all models.

The SUV body style gives the driver a raised driving position
that results in a good view of the road. The raised body also
makes it easy to fit child seats, a feature many mothers will
fall in love with. The cabin accommodates five passengers in
seats that are upholstered in a quality fabric. To enhance
practicability the rear seats can slide on rails. This helps
increase legroom of the rear passengers or increase cargo space
as the case may be. With the seats slid fully forward, the
model can accommodate 520 liters of cargo space, which is
larger than that of the Renault Captur.

Tech-wise, the Crossland X  features a 180-degreerear view
camera, park assist, ABS, forward collision warning with
pedestrian detection, side blind-spot alert and speed sign
recognition.

Engine Specs and performance

Opel is yet to release details about the drive-train options of
the new Crossland X. However, since the model is based on the
Mokka X it is safe to assume the Crossland X will share it
drivetrains with the Mokka X.   Currently, the base
engine on the Mokka X is a 1.6 L, gasoline engine that is
capable of producing  115 horses.

Higher trims will likely be powered by a turbocharged 1.4 L,
gasoline engine that produces 140 hp or152 hp.  The model
will also likely get a 1.6 L diesel mill that produces 110 hp
or 136 hp. Expect the model to have impressive fuel economy
numbers considering the most efficient Mokka X returns over 72
mpg.

Price and release date

Opel has not released official prices of the Crossland X.
However, credible reports indicate that the base model will
have a starting price of around $19,000 while the top trim will
fetch $29,000. We will communicate more details once the
automaker releases more information. The Crossland X was
showcased to the public during the recent international auto
show in Berlin. Sales will commence later this summer.

Competition

As said earlier, top rivals of the 2018 Opel Crossland X will
be the Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur.
